GP Future Relaunches

Following a couple of years absence, GP Future was relaunched, without fanfare or fuss, in August 2011. Founders Steve Male & Mark Lucas had taken a couple of years off due to personal commitments but felt the time was right to give the campaign another shot.

Before going through a major re-write, Steve and Mark discussed what features of the old site should be retained and what should be discarded. It was agreed that the site's greatest asset was its Showcase feature, which formed the backbone of the last campaign. The slightly revised Showcase section has therefore been retained. We are very keen to hear from riders, particularly those just starting out, so we can help promiote them within the site.

With youngsters in mind, GP Future will provide an additional web presence, via links to a rider's own site. Where riders have no site of their own, GP Future can create a CV to be displayed Showcase page. alternatively, a standalone, bespoke website can be written. Any such site would be independent and wholly owned by the rider. GP Future would then add a link to the new site in the Showcase page. More details can be found in our Promote Yourself page.

We are also re-establishing contact with organisations involved in bike racing, whether that is official organisations and clubs or businesses connected to the sport. More on this will be announced as things develop.

The task of actually getting into racing is highly involved and expensive, even at the lowest level of competition. We have provided a little practical and financial advice for anyone considering starting to race. For ideas on the costs involved, look in the "How much will it cost?" page. For further information, there is our "Start Racing" page.

One of the discussion we had pointed out that, if GP Future was really going to make a difference, it needs to be more than simply an information site.

This brings us on to our next goal; that of starting a team. We're not well off and we don't have the experience needed to create a fully-fledged racing team of our own but if we are to be taken seriously, then we will need to put our time (and money) where our mouths are. To that end, we are discussing the steps needed to get a team up and running. This is clearly a long-term goal but one we will be discussing at length. While we don't expect to have trouble finding willing riders, the biggest issue will be finding willing backers. Watch this space.

Finally, following general modern-day trends (difficult for old farts like us), we have set up a Facebook and a Facebook Group page, where we would be delighted to see you.
